A Day in the Life
You teach Psychology at A/L level or university, covering cognitive, social, developmental, and clinical psychology theories and research, preparing students for academic study and careers in mental health, counselling, and social sciences.
- Plan and deliver A/L Psychology lessons or university-level psychology modules
- Teach core topics: biological, cognitive, developmental, social, and abnormal psychology
- Cover research methodology — experimental design, sampling, data collection and analysis
- Prepare students for A/L Psychology examinations or university assessments
- Design and assess practical reports, essays, and case study analyses
- Facilitate critical discussion of psychological theories and empirical research
- Stay current with psychology research and integrate contemporary findings into teaching
- Provide academic guidance on psychology-related career pathways and further study
Work Environment
Classroom or lecture theatre at a government school (A/L level) or university. Psychology has grown rapidly as an A/L subject in Sri Lanka's Arts stream. At university level, the University of Colombo, Open University, and private institutions (CINEC, IIT, ICBT) offer psychology programmes. Demand for psychology education is driven by increasing public awareness of mental health.
