About This Role

A Day in the Life

Develop, implement, and oversee the organisation's ethics and compliance programme — building a culture of integrity, managing the code of conduct, whistleblower processes, anti-corruption policies, and ensuring alignment to ESG and governance requirements.

  • Develop and maintain the organisation's Code of Ethics and Conduct
  • Manage the whistleblower hotline and ethics reporting mechanisms
  • Investigate ethics complaints and potential corruption or misconduct cases
  • Design and deliver ethics awareness training across all employee levels
  • Monitor compliance with anti-bribery, anti-corruption, and conflict-of-interest policies
  • Prepare Board-level ethics and governance reports
  • Review business practices for alignment with ESG and sustainability commitments
  • Engage with regulatory bodies, auditors, and external ethics assessors

Senior compliance or governance function. In Sri Lanka, Ethics & Compliance Officers are found at large listed companies (CSE-listed conglomerates), multinationals (Unilever, Nestlé), international NGOs (UNDP, Transparency International), government bodies, and financial institutions with strong ESG reporting obligations. Reports to the CEO, General Counsel, or Board Audit Committee.

Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime

Reasonable balance. Ethics investigations and Board reporting cycles create intensive periods. The sensitivity of whistleblower matters can require urgent out-of-hours response.
