About This Role
Standardizes and oversees the execution of IT and business projects across the entire organization.
A Day in the Life
Establish, govern, and continuously improve the organisation's project management framework — providing standards, oversight, reporting, and portfolio-level visibility to enable successful project delivery across all business units.
- Maintain the enterprise project portfolio registry and track status across all active projects
- Develop and enforce project management methodologies, templates, and governance standards
- Facilitate portfolio review meetings with the steering committee and C-suite
- Provide project assurance reviews and health checks on complex or at-risk projects
- Coordinate resource allocation across the project portfolio to avoid conflicts
- Produce executive-level portfolio dashboards and exception reports
- Onboard and coach project managers on PMO standards and tools
- Manage the PMO budget and the continuous improvement of PM practices
Work Environment
Large organisations with significant project and change portfolios — banks, telecoms, government agencies, large conglomerates, and IT services companies. In Sri Lanka, formal PMOs are most mature in Dialog Axiata, commercial banks (Sampath, Commercial Bank), and government digital transformation programmes. PMO Leads typically report to a COO or CIO.
