About This Role
Drives internal entrepreneurship (intrapreneurship) by developing new products or processes within large corporates.
A Day in the Life
Lead and facilitate the organisation's innovation agenda — building structured innovation processes, managing idea pipelines, fostering an innovation culture, and turning new ideas into measurable business outcomes.
- Facilitate ideation workshops and design thinking sprints with cross-functional teams
- Manage the innovation funnel: idea capture, evaluation, prototyping, and piloting
- Build and maintain relationships with startups, universities, and technology partners
- Lead the organisation's innovation lab, hackathons, or intrapreneurship programmes
- Track innovation portfolio performance: ideas generated, pilots launched, outcomes achieved
- Collaborate with R&D, product, and strategy teams to embed innovation in business planning
- Build the organisation's capability in design thinking, agile prototyping, and lean startup
- Report innovation progress and ROI to the CEO and Board
Work Environment
Innovation function or corporate venture lab. In Sri Lanka, Innovation Manager roles are found at the largest organisations: Dialog (Innovation Centre), John Keells Holdings (JKIT / corporate ventures), Commercial Bank (innovation lab), KPMG Sri Lanka, and large conglomerates with digital transformation agendas. Also in NGOs and government bodies with innovation and digital programmes.
Typical hours: 47h/week · WLB score 6/10 · IRREGULAR overtime
Innovation cycles are irregular — hackathons, design sprints, and pilot launches create intense short bursts. Most of the time the work is collaborative and flexible.
