About This Role
Teaches English structure and linguistics to advanced students.
A Day in the Life
You teach English language skills — reading, writing, listening, and speaking — to students at a school, language institute, or private tuition centre, adapting lessons to different proficiency levels.
- Plan and deliver English lessons aligned with national curriculum or institute syllabus
- Teach grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, and oral communication
- Prepare students for O/L, A/L, IELTS, Cambridge, or TOEFL examinations
- Create or adapt teaching materials including worksheets, activities, and multimedia content
- Assess student performance through assignments, tests, and spoken evaluations
- Provide corrective feedback on written and spoken English
- Track student progress and communicate with parents or guardians
- Participate in staff meetings, curriculum planning sessions, and professional development
Work Environment
Classroom-based role at a government school, private school, international school, or English language institute. Sri Lanka has strong demand for English language teachers at all levels — from primary schools in rural areas to premium international schools in Colombo. Language institutes such as AIESEC-partnered centres and British Council-affiliated schools also employ ELT specialists.
