About This Role
Teaching acting techniques and theatre history to students in schools.
A Day in the Life
You teach drama and theatre arts — developing students' performance skills, voice, movement, script analysis, and production capabilities through practical workshops, rehearsals, and stage productions.
- Facilitate drama workshops — improvisation, devised theatre, scripted performance
- Teach voice projection, articulation, and physical expressiveness
- Guide students through script analysis and character development
- Direct school drama productions — rehearsals, staging, blocking, and performance nights
- Teach technical theatre basics — lighting, set design, sound, and stage management
- Prepare students for A/L Drama & Theatre examinations
- Develop students' confidence, empathy, and communication through performance
- Coordinate with school administration on drama event budgets and facilities
Work Environment
School drama room, assembly hall, or dedicated theatre space. International schools in Colombo have dedicated drama studios and annual musical productions. Government schools use assembly halls for performances. UVPA Sri Lanka and University of Kelaniya have dedicated theatre programmes. Private drama academies exist in Colombo.
