Operates process equipment at petroleum storage terminals, rubber chemical plants, or lubricant blending facilities. Monitors gauges, valves, and automated control systems. Works at CEYPETCO oil storage terminals (Kolonnawa, Muthurajawela) or rubber chemical plants. HND in Chemical Engineering or NVQ Level 4 in process operations.

A Chemical Plant Operator's day involves continuous monitoring and control of industrial processes in petroleum or rubber chemical plants. This includes checking gauges, adjusting valves, and operating automated systems to ensure safe and efficient production, often working in shifts.
- Monitor process parameters such as temperature, pressure, and flow rates using control systems and gauges.
- Operate and adjust valves, pumps, and other equipment to maintain optimal process conditions.
- Conduct routine inspections of plant machinery and pipelines for leaks, malfunctions, or abnormalities.
- Collect samples of raw materials and finished products for quality control testing.
- Record operational data, log readings, and report any deviations or incidents.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks and assist technicians with equipment repairs.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and emergency procedures.
- Communicate with supervisors and other operators during shift changes to ensure smooth handover.
