About This Role
Diagnoses and treats diseases in companion animals, livestock, and wildlife. The only public university offering BVSc in Sri Lanka is the University of Peradeniya, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science (FVMAS) — 5-year degree, highly competitive (Z-score). Registration with the Sri Lanka Veterinary Council (SLVC) is mandatory. Government vets serve in DAPH; private vets in clinics.
A Day in the Life
A Veterinary Surgeon's day is highly varied, involving diagnosing and treating illnesses in a range of animals, performing surgeries, providing preventative care, and consulting with animal owners. The work can be in a clinic, on farms, or occasionally in wildlife settings.
- Examine animals to diagnose illnesses, injuries, and health conditions
