A Day in the Life

A Textile Technologist focuses on improving fabric properties and managing quality control in textile production. This involves testing materials, optimizing processes, troubleshooting defects, and ensuring products meet required standards and specifications.

  • Conduct quality control tests on raw materials, in-process fabrics, and finished goods.
  • Analyze fabric properties such as strength, colorfastness, shrinkage, and pilling.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to fabric defects, dyeing, or finishing processes.
  • Develop and implement new testing procedures and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with production, design, and R&D teams to improve product quality and efficiency.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports on test results and process improvements.
  • Stay updated on new textile technologies, materials, and quality standards.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to production staff.

Work Environment

Works in a hybrid environment, splitting time between a laboratory for testing and analysis, an office for reporting, and the factory floor for process monitoring and troubleshooting. Can be noisy and require safety gear on the factory floor.
