A Day in the Life
A Technical Designer spends their day translating creative design concepts into detailed technical specifications and patterns. This involves creating technical packs, conducting fit sessions, ensuring garment construction meets quality standards, and collaborating with pattern makers and manufacturers to bring designs to life accurately and efficiently.
- Create detailed technical specification packs (tech packs) for garments, including measurements, materials, construction details, and finishing.
- Develop and refine patterns using CAD software or manual techniques.
- Conduct fit sessions, analyze fit issues, and provide clear feedback for pattern adjustments.
- Collaborate with designers to understand their vision and translate it into manufacturable designs.
- Communicate with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure production quality and adherence to specifications.
- Research and implement new construction techniques and material innovations.
- Review samples and prototypes for quality, fit, and adherence to design intent.
- Maintain accurate documentation and libraries of patterns and technical specifications.
Work Environment
