A Stage & Set Designer's day involves conceptualizing and creating the visual environment for theatrical productions, films, or events. This includes sketching designs, creating models, sourcing materials, collaborating with directors and production teams, and overseeing the construction and installation of sets. It's a highly creative and hands-on role that brings stories to life through physical space.
- Reading scripts and collaborating with directors to understand the vision
- Developing conceptual sketches and mood boards for set designs
- Creating detailed technical drawings and 3D models of sets
- Researching historical periods, architectural styles, and material options
- Sourcing and selecting appropriate materials, props, and furniture
- Managing budgets and timelines for set construction
- Overseeing the construction, painting, and dressing of sets
- Attending rehearsals and making adjustments to the set as needed
