About This Role
Supervises day-to-day construction activities on site — setting out, concrete works, structural inspections, and contractor management. Entry role for civil engineering graduates. Major contractors: Maga Engineering, Access Engineering, Sanken Construction, Tudawe Brothers, Nawaloka Construction. CIDA C1/C2 contractor grade system governs the sector.
A Day in the Life
A Site Engineer (Civil) spends their day on the construction site, overseeing daily operations, managing workers, ensuring quality control, and coordinating with various stakeholders. This involves setting out works, inspecting concrete pours, managing material deliveries, and ensuring adherence to project plans and safety standards.
- Supervise daily construction activities, ensuring work is carried out according to drawings and specifications.
- Conduct setting out and leveling for various structural elements.
- Inspect concrete pours, rebar fixing, and formwork to ensure quality standards.
- Manage and coordinate subcontractors, labor, and material deliveries.
- Monitor project progress against the schedule and report any deviations.
- Implement and enforce health and safety regulations on site.
- Prepare daily progress reports, site diaries, and other documentation.
- Resolve minor technical issues and coordinate with design engineers for major problems.
Work Environment
Works primarily on active construction sites, which are dynamic, often noisy, dusty, and exposed to varying weather conditions. The role requires constant movement, direct interaction with workers, and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment. Safety gear (PPE) is essential.
