A Day in the Life
A Construction Contract Manager's day is focused on the legal and commercial aspects of construction projects. This involves reviewing contracts, managing claims, negotiating variations, and ensuring compliance with contractual terms to protect the interests of their client (contractor or employer).
- Review and interpret FIDIC, NEC, or other standard form contracts for new projects.
- Manage and administer contract terms, including payment clauses, warranties, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
- Prepare and assess claims for extensions of time (EOT) and additional costs.
- Negotiate variation orders and change requests with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Draft and review contractual correspondence and notices.
- Provide advice on contractual risks and obligations to project teams.
- Participate in dispute resolution processes, including mediation or arbitration.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations related to construction contracts.
Work Environment
Primarily an office-based role, often within a head office or a project site office. The environment is professional, requiring strong negotiation and communication skills. Involves frequent meetings with legal teams, project managers, clients, and subcontractors.
