MEP Engineer (Construction)
This role is perfect for those who are fascinated by how buildings work, enjoy complex technical challenges, and have a knack for problem-solving. It offers the satisfaction of designing essential systems that bring structures to life, ensuring comfort, safety, and efficiency. While demanding, the opportunity to innovate and contribute to modern infrastructure is incredibly rewarding.”
About This Role
Designs and supervises mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems within buildings — HVAC, fire protection, electrical distributions, and plumbing. Growing demand in high-rise construction and Port City commercial buildings. Can specialise as mechanical or electrical engineer.
A Day in the Life
An MEP Engineer's day involves designing, analyzing, and supervising the installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within buildings. This includes calculating loads, selecting equipment, drafting layouts, and ensuring systems meet building codes and client requirements.
- Design HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems, including ductwork and piping layouts.
- Develop electrical power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage system designs.
- Plan plumbing and drainage systems, including water supply, sanitary, and storm water.
- Perform load calculations and equipment sizing for all MEP systems.
- Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities (BOQ) for MEP works.
- Coordinate MEP designs with architectural and structural teams to resolve clashes.
- Supervise on-site installation, testing, and commissioning of MEP systems.
- Ensure designs comply with local building codes, international standards, and energy efficiency requirements.
Work Environment
Works in a hybrid environment, splitting time between an office for design work and construction sites for supervision and coordination. The office environment is collaborative, while site visits involve interaction with contractors and problem-solving in a dynamic setting.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 6/10 · COMMON overtime
Work-life balance can be challenging due to project deadlines and the need for site supervision. Overtime is common, especially during design submission phases or critical installation periods.
