A Day in the Life
You service, diagnose, and repair both domestic and light commercial refrigeration equipment — household fridges, freezers, chest freezers, display cases, and water coolers — as an in-demand, accessible skilled trade.
- Diagnose faults in domestic refrigerators and freezers — compressor, thermostat, gas charge
- Recover, evacuate, and recharge refrigerant (R134a, R600a isobutane, R290)
- Replace compressors, thermostats, relays, and capacitors
- Repair leaking refrigerant circuits — locate leaks using detectors, braze repairs
- Service light commercial display cases and bottle coolers
- Clean condenser coils and check evaporator operation
- Repair ice maker units and water dispensers in home and commercial appliances
- Issue service reports and manage warranty repair documentation for brands
Work Environment
Customer homes, small shops, restaurants, and offices across Sri Lanka. Domestic refrigeration technicians are found in every town. In Sri Lanka, brand authorised service centres (Singer, LG, Samsung, Abans) employ refrigeration technicians for warranty and out-of-warranty repair. Large numbers of refrigeration technicians operate independently, serving their local community.
