A Day in the Life
You oversee a manufacturing production shift — managing a team of operators, monitoring output targets and quality, troubleshooting production stoppages, and ensuring safe, efficient factory operations.
- Brief shift team on production targets, quality requirements, and any safety issues
- Allocate operators to production lines or machine stations
- Monitor production output rates against daily targets
- Intervene and troubleshoot when machines break down or defect rates rise
- Inspect in-process quality and escalate non-conformances to QC team
- Maintain shift records — output, downtime, quality, and attendance
- Enforce safety rules and PPE compliance on the production floor
- Handover to next shift supervisor with accurate status report

Manufacturing factory floor — noise, machinery, material handling equipment, and a team of 10–30 operators. Production supervisors in Sri Lanka's FTZ garment, electronics, and rubber/plastics industries manage large shift teams. Government industrial operations (STC, SEC) also employ production supervisors in more structured hierarchies.
