A Day in the Life
You teach Political Science at A/L level in a government school, covering theories of government, comparative politics, Sri Lankan constitutional history, international relations, and political ideologies.
- Plan and deliver A/L Political Science lessons covering the national syllabus
- Teach political theory (social contract, democracy, communism, liberalism, nationalism)
- Cover Sri Lankan constitutional and political history (1948 to present)
- Teach comparative government systems and international relations basics
- Prepare students for A/L Political Science examinations
- Facilitate discussion and debate on current political events and systems
- Set and mark structured essays and analytical response questions
- Participate in NIE in-service workshops for social studies teachers
Work Environment
A/L classroom at a government school. Political Science is a popular A/L subject in the Arts stream in Sri Lanka, attractive to students interested in law, public administration, journalism, diplomacy, and social sciences. The subject is contextually relevant in Sri Lanka given the country's rich political history.
