Training and supporting teachers within the government school system.
A Day in the Life
You are an experienced teacher appointed as an In-Service Advisor (ISA) by the Ministry of Education or Zonal Education Office, supporting and mentoring practising teachers in your subject area through school visits, workshops, and professional development programmes.
- Visit assigned schools in your zone and observe classroom teaching
- Provide post-observation feedback and coaching to subject teachers
- Facilitate zonal and divisional in-service education (ISE) workshops for teachers
- Develop or adapt training materials and workshop content for ISE sessions
- Identify professional development needs of teachers in assigned schools
- Liaise between the Ministry of Education / NIE and school-level teachers
- Monitor curriculum implementation quality and report findings to zonal authorities
- Support new and probationary teachers in lesson planning and classroom management
Work Environment
Mobile role covering multiple schools within a Zonal Education Division. ISAs work out of Zonal Education Offices (ZEOs) and travel frequently to schools in their assigned cluster. Sri Lanka has 97 Zonal Education Offices across the nine provinces. ISAs are senior teachers who have been selected for this advisory role based on experience and subject expertise.
