About This Role
Writes funding proposals to bilateral donors, international foundations, and governments. Manages donor reporting and compliance. Critical role for local NGOs dependent on external funding. Strong English writing, budgeting, and knowledge of logical framework (logframe) are essential.
A Day in the Life
A Grant Writer spends their day researching potential funding opportunities, meticulously crafting compelling proposals, and managing the reporting requirements for existing grants. This involves extensive writing, budgeting, and collaboration with program teams to articulate impact and secure vital funding for the organization.
- Researching and identifying potential funding opportunities from various donors (foundations, governments, corporations).
- Developing and writing grant proposals, concept notes, and letters of inquiry.
- Collaborating with program teams to gather project information, data, and success stories.
- Developing detailed project budgets in coordination with finance teams.
- Ensuring all proposals adhere to donor guidelines and submission requirements.
- Preparing and submitting timely grant reports to donors, detailing progress and financial expenditure.
- Maintaining a database of funding opportunities, submissions, and reporting deadlines.
- Building and nurturing relationships with donor representatives.
Work Environment
Primarily an office-based role, often within an NGO or INGO. The environment is deadline-driven and requires strong focus and attention to detail. Collaboration with program, finance, and M&E teams is constant.
Typical hours: 40h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
