A Day in the Life
You teach one or more subjects at a government school in Sri Lanka, delivering the national curriculum to students from Grade 1 through A/L, under the Ministry of Education's regulatory framework.
- Plan and deliver lessons aligned with the national curriculum for your assigned subject(s)
- Conduct continuous assessments, term tests, and semester examinations
- Maintain student attendance records, mark registers, and progress documentation
- Participate in school-level activities including sports days, prefect events, and annual concerts
- Communicate with parents during open days and in response to student concerns
- Attend subject-specific teacher training and in-service education (ISE) programmes
- Contribute to school-level committees (discipline, curriculum, co-curricular)
- Prepare students for national examinations (Grade 5 Scholarship, O/L, A/L)
Work Environment
Government school classroom, with staff rooms, administration blocks, and co-curricular spaces. Sri Lanka has over 10,000 government schools managed by the Ministry of Education. Teachers are recruited through the Teachers' Service Commission and assigned to schools across all provinces. 1AB National Schools (Royal, Visakha, Nalanda, etc.) are the most competitive placements.
