A Day in the Life
A Digital Film Director leads the entire creative and technical process of filmmaking, from script to screen, utilizing digital technologies. A typical day involves pre-production (storyboarding, shot listing, casting), directing actors and crew on set, overseeing digital cinematography, and collaborating with editors and post-production teams to achieve the desired visual and narrative outcome.
- Develop and refine the creative vision for the film based on the script
- Create storyboards, shot lists, and visual references
- Conduct casting sessions and work with actors on character development
- Direct camera operators, lighting technicians, and sound engineers on set
- Oversee digital cinematography, ensuring visual quality and aesthetic consistency
- Collaborate with the editor during post-production to shape the narrative flow
- Provide feedback on visual effects, sound design, and color grading
- Manage the overall production schedule and budget (in collaboration with producers)
Work Environment
The work environment is highly dynamic and varied, ranging from pre-production meetings in an office, intense on-location shoots (indoors/outdoors), to collaborative sessions in editing suites. It's a high-pressure, creative, and often physically demanding role, requiring strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
Typical hours: 60h/week · WLB score 3/10 · REGULAR overtime
Work-life balance is extremely poor during production phases, with very long and irregular hours. Even during pre- and post-production, the demands are high. This is not a 9-to-5 job.
