About This Role
Flies scheduled and charter flights as First Officer or Captain. SriLankan Airlines is the primary employer in Sri Lanka. Training pathway: PPL → CPL → IR → ATPL. CAA Sri Lanka issues licences; minimum 200 hours for CPL. Sri Lanka Flying College (SLFC), Ratmalana, provides ab initio training. SriLankan Airlines cadet programme available.
A Day in the Life
A Commercial Airline Pilot's day involves meticulous pre-flight planning, conducting thorough aircraft checks, flying complex routes, and managing all aspects of the flight from takeoff to landing. It requires constant vigilance, adherence to strict procedures, and effective communication with air traffic control and the cabin crew.
- Conduct pre-flight briefings, review flight plans, weather, and NOTAMs.
- Perform external and internal aircraft inspections.
- Program Flight Management Systems (FMS) and other avionics.
- Communicate with Air Traffic Control (ATC) for clearances and instructions.
- Operate aircraft controls during takeoff, cruise, and landing.
- Monitor aircraft systems and instruments throughout the flight.
- Manage unexpected situations, including weather diversions or technical issues.
- Complete post-flight reports and debriefings.
Work Environment
Working in the cockpit of an aircraft, often at high altitudes and across different time zones. The environment is highly technical, requiring intense focus, precision, and the ability to operate in a confined space for extended periods.
