About This Role
Holds a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree from a state university (University of Colombo Ayurveda Campus, RUSL). Registered with the Ayurveda Medical Council of Sri Lanka. Works in government Ayurveda hospitals, private Ayurveda clinics, or wellness resorts. State employment available through Ministry of Indigenous Medicine.
A Day in the Life
An Ayurvedic Physician's day involves patient consultations, diagnosing conditions based on Ayurvedic principles, prescribing herbal medicines and therapies, and overseeing treatment plans. They also educate patients on diet and lifestyle for holistic well-being.
- Conduct patient consultations, taking detailed medical histories and pulse diagnoses
- Diagnose diseases according to Ayurvedic pathology (Dosha imbalances)
- Prescribe customized herbal formulations and Ayurvedic medicines
- Recommend specific Panchakarma treatments (e.g., Vamana, Virechana, Basti)
- Advise patients on Ayurvedic diet, lifestyle modifications, and yoga/meditation
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals for integrated care
- Maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation
Work Environment
Works in a calm, often traditional, clinical setting such as a government Ayurvedic hospital, private clinic, or a wellness resort. The environment is focused on healing and patient comfort, often featuring natural elements and a serene atmosphere.
