A Day in the Life
You oversee the daily operations of a vehicle workshop — allocating work to mechanics, maintaining quality standards, managing job card flow, handling customer communications, and ensuring service targets are met.
- Allocate vehicles and repair jobs to mechanics based on skill and workload
- Review completed job cards for accuracy and quality before customer collection
- Handle escalated technical issues and customer complaints
- Monitor workshop bay productivity and flag delayed jobs
- Liaise with parts department to ensure parts availability for scheduled jobs
- Conduct daily toolbox briefings on safety and quality issues
- Report workshop performance metrics to service manager (jobs completed, hours billed)
- Enforce workshop safety and PPE compliance among all mechanics
Work Environment
Workshop floor supervisory role in a vehicle service centre — authorised dealer, fleet maintenance yard, or large independent workshop. In Sri Lanka, workshop supervisors report to the Service Manager and are responsible for a team of 8–25 mechanics and technicians.
