A Day in the Life
You provide technical expertise for vehicle systems at a higher level than a mechanic — evaluating complex faults, designing repair procedures, managing workshop quality, and supporting fleet engineering decisions.
- Evaluate complex vehicle faults escalated by mechanics — engine management, transmission, chassis
- Prepare technical repair procedures and time standards for workshop management
- Evaluate warranty claims and liaise with vehicle manufacturers on technical matters
- Conduct pre-delivery inspections (PDI) for new vehicle imports
- Manage workshop quality and ensure repairs meet OEM standards
- Support fleet operators with vehicle lifecycle planning and preventive maintenance programmes
- Evaluate vehicles for accident damage assessment and repair cost estimation
- Train and mentor workshop technicians on new model technical updates
Work Environment
Senior technical role in authorised dealer service centres, vehicle importers, fleet management companies, and insurance companies. In Sri Lanka, Automobile Engineers work at DIMO, Toyota Lanka, Lanka Ashok Leyland, large fleet operators (SriLankan Airlines ground fleet, bus companies), and insurance assessors.
