A Day in the Life
You join metal components using heat and filler material — performing basic to intermediate welding tasks in workshops, construction sites, or maintenance settings across Sri Lanka's industrial and construction sectors.
- Perform SMAW (stick) welding on flat and horizontal joints for fabrication and repair
- Weld steel plates, angles, channels, and pipes in workshop and site conditions
- Prepare joints by cleaning, grinding, and bevelling where required
- Read basic welding symbols and fabrication drawings
- Carry out tack welding and fit-up before full welding
- Perform weld repairs on damaged equipment and structures
- Maintain welding equipment — replace electrodes, clean nozzles, adjust parameters
- Follow basic safety practices — welding curtains, fire watch, PPE
Work Environment
