A Day in the Life
You use electronic diagnostic tools to identify faults in modern vehicles' computer systems, interpreting live sensor data and fault codes to direct repairs accurately and efficiently.
- Connect and operate OBD scan tools to retrieve and interpret DTCs
- Analyse live data streams (sensor readings, fuel trims, injector pulsewidths)
- Perform component-level testing on suspect sensors and actuators
- Clear fault codes and verify repair effectiveness through test drives
- Complete written diagnostic reports documenting findings and recommendations
- Advise workshop on parts required and estimated repair time
- Keep scan tool software updated with latest vehicle coverage
- Assist junior technicians with complex electronic fault diagnosis
