About This Role
Presents news bulletins, live breaking news, and current affairs programmes on Sri Lankan television. Key employers: Rupavahini (state), ITN (state), Sirasa TV (MBC Networks), Hiru TV (Maharaja Networks), Swarnavahini, Derana TV, TV1. Sinhala, Tamil, or English presenters required. Strong voice, screen presence, and journalism knowledge essential. SLBC/SLRC periodically recruits.
A Day in the Life
A TV News Presenter's day involves extensive preparation, including researching news stories, reviewing scripts, rehearsing delivery, and presenting live or pre-recorded news bulletins. It requires a strong on-screen presence, clear articulation, and the ability to remain calm and authoritative under pressure, especially during breaking news.
- Researching and understanding news stories, current events, and background information
- Reviewing and editing news scripts for clarity, accuracy, and flow
- Rehearsing delivery, timing, and pronunciation for bulletins
- Presenting live or pre-recorded news segments and current affairs programmes
- Conducting live interviews with guests or field reporters
- Maintaining a professional and authoritative on-screen presence
- Working closely with producers, directors, and teleprompter operators
