A Day in the Life
You teach Hindu Civilization as a subject in Sri Lankan schools or colleges, guiding students through Hindu history, philosophy, cultural traditions, and the role of Hinduism in Sri Lanka's pluralistic society.
- Prepare and deliver lessons on Hindu history, philosophy, and cultural traditions
- Guide students through the O/L or A/L Hindu Civilization syllabus
- Design examination questions, mark assignments, and prepare progress reports
- Facilitate discussions on Hindu philosophy, ethics, and comparative religion
- Engage with Tamil-medium instruction where required
- Support students' cultural and spiritual questions with appropriate sensitivity
- Coordinate with Social Studies and Tamil Language teachers on interdisciplinary content
- Participate in school religious and cultural events (Thai Pongal, Deepavali)
Work Environment
School or college classroom, primarily in Tamil-medium or bilingual schools in the Northern, Eastern, and Central provinces of Sri Lanka, as well as Tamil-community schools in Colombo. Respectful, community-oriented school culture.
Typical hours: 42h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
School calendar provides structured term breaks. Exam marking periods add hours at term end.
