A Day in the Life

You weld structural steel connections on building frames, bridges, and industrial structures — combining certified welding with site work, often at height, to create the permanent joints that hold structures together.

Weld beam-to-column connections, gusset plates, and moment connections on building frames
Perform fillet and groove welds to AWS D1.1 structural steel welding code
Work at height on scaffolding and elevated platforms to access structural connections
Prepare joint surfaces — chip slag, grind, and clean before welding
Check weld quality visually and report any concerns to site welding inspector
Coordinate with ironworkers who position and hold steel before welding
Operate in all positions — flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead
Maintain safe welding practices with fire watch and hot work protocols on site
