About This Role

Grassroots-level government officer implementing the Samurdhi (Divineguma) poverty reduction programme. Identifies eligible beneficiaries, manages samurdhi bank societies, facilitates micro-loans, and coordinates livelihood development activities in their assigned area. Competitive PSC examination entry. Deployed island-wide, including remote areas. Over 20,000 Samurdhi officers serve Sri Lanka.

A Day in the Life

A Samurdhi Development Officer's day is highly dynamic and community-focused, spent primarily in the field within their assigned Grama Niladhari division. They identify and support Samurdhi beneficiaries, manage Samurdhi bank societies, facilitate micro-loans, and coordinate various livelihood development activities, acting as a crucial link between the government and the most vulnerable communities.

  • Conduct household surveys to identify eligible Samurdhi beneficiaries and assess their needs.
  • Manage the operations of Samurdhi bank societies, including savings mobilization and loan disbursement.
  • Facilitate micro-loan applications and ensure timely repayment from beneficiaries.
  • Coordinate and implement livelihood development programs (e.g., agriculture, small business).
  • Provide guidance and support to Samurdhi families on nutrition, health, and education.
  • Organize community meetings and awareness programs on government welfare schemes.
  • Maintain accurate records of beneficiaries, financial transactions, and program activities.
