A Day in the Life

You design, build, and maintain management reports, dashboards, and data visualisations that translate business data into actionable insights for decision-makers across the organisation.

Design and build management dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent BI tools
Extract, clean, and transform data from multiple business systems (ERP, CRM, HR)
Produce scheduled reports (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly) for management
Investigate data discrepancies and ensure report accuracy
Work with business stakeholders to define reporting requirements and KPIs
Maintain and optimise the data warehouse or reporting database
Train users on self-service BI tools and report interpretation
Document data definitions, reporting logic, and calculation methodologies

Office or hybrid analytics environment, often within a Finance, IT, or Operations department. In Sri Lanka, found across all large corporate sectors — banks (HNB, Commercial Bank), telcos (Dialog), FMCG (Unilever, Nestlé), and large conglomerates (John Keells Holdings).

Typical hours: 44h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime

Good balance generally. Month-end and quarterly reporting periods create deadline pressure.
