A Day in the Life
A specialist-level PR professional with deep expertise in a specific domain (corporate, digital, crisis, investor relations, or internal communications), leading specialist campaigns and advising business units on communications strategy.
- Design and lead specialised PR campaigns (e.g., crisis response, product launch, CSR)
- Develop targeted media strategies for specific business segments or stakeholders
- Advise senior management on communications risks and opportunities
- Create specialist content — white papers, thought leadership articles, investor briefings
- Build and manage niche media and influencer relationships in the specialist area
- Lead internal communications programmes and employee engagement campaigns
- Measure and report on specialist PR metrics with domain-specific KPIs
- Train and coach junior PR team members in the specialist area
Work Environment
Senior individual contributor or small team lead within a PR department or agency. In Sri Lanka, specialist PR roles exist in large conglomerates (JKH, Hemas, Aitken Spence), multinational subsidiaries, and leading agencies. More strategic than a PR Officer but not a people manager.
