A Day in the Life

You execute public relations campaigns, manage media relationships, and protect the reputation of a brand or organisation through strategic communications and press activity.

  • Write press releases, media pitches, and background briefings
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets
  • Monitor media coverage and compile daily/weekly media clipping reports
  • Draft talking points, speeches, and interview preparation materials for spokespeople
  • Coordinate event logistics for press conferences, product launches, and media briefings
  • Manage social media messaging consistency with overall PR strategy
  • Track PR campaign metrics (media reach, sentiment, share of voice)
  • Research emerging news angles to proactively pitch brand stories

Work Environment

Fast-paced agency or in-house communications team environment. Sri Lanka PR executives work primarily in Colombo, at PR agencies (Ode, Grant PR, Leo Burnett PR division) or in-house at corporates (Dialog, HNB, Hemas, John Keells). Frequent external meetings with journalists and event vendors.

Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 6/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime

Event days and crisis situations require extended hours. Generally flexible but newsworthy events can demand immediate response at any time.
