A Day in the Life
A Media Choreographer / Movement Director spends their day conceptualizing, designing, and teaching movement sequences for various media, such as music videos, films, commercials, and live performances. This involves collaborating with directors, producers, and performers to ensure the movement aligns with the artistic vision and technical requirements of the camera.
- Reading scripts and collaborating with directors to understand the artistic vision and narrative
- Developing original choreography and movement concepts tailored for camera angles and specific media
- Teaching and rehearsing movement sequences with dancers, actors, or performers
- Blocking scenes and movements on set, considering camera placement and lighting
- Providing feedback and refining performances to achieve desired emotional and visual impact
- Researching different dance styles, cultural movements, and historical periods for authenticity
- Managing schedules and coordinating with production teams for rehearsals and shoots
- Attending pre-production meetings and post-production reviews to ensure continuity
Work Environment
Works in diverse environments including dance studios, film sets, and outdoor locations. The work is highly collaborative and physically demanding, requiring constant interaction with creative teams and performers.
