Work Environment
University campus environment — a mix of lecture halls, office rooms, and shared faculty spaces. Research-oriented lecturers also spend time in labs or libraries. Sri Lankan public universities have a more formal hierarchy; private institutions like SLIIT and NSBM tend to be more modern and collaborative.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Academic roles offer reasonable work-life balance outside of exam and grading periods, but research pressures (publish or perish) add stress, especially for PhD holders seeking promotion. Teaching loads in SL public universities can be heavy due to staff shortages.
