A Day in the Life
A Fish Farm Manager oversees all aspects of aquaculture operations, from breeding and feeding to water quality management, disease prevention, and harvesting. They are responsible for the health and growth of aquatic species, operational efficiency, and profitability.
- Monitor water quality parameters (pH, oxygen, temperature, ammonia) and adjust as needed
- Develop and implement feeding regimes and manage feed inventory
- Oversee breeding programs, larval rearing, and stock management
- Implement disease prevention and treatment protocols, including biosecurity measures
- Manage and train farm staff, assigning tasks and ensuring adherence to safety procedures
- Maintain and repair farm infrastructure, tanks, pumps, and filtration systems
- Plan and execute harvesting operations, ensuring efficient and humane handling of fish
- Manage budgets, record-keeping, and reporting on production, costs, and sales
