About This Role

Conducts agricultural research at the Coconut Research Institute, Lunuwila — developing high-yielding coconut varieties, pest/disease management, coconut-based product R&D, and farmer extension services. Government research career. BSc Agriculture or Botany required. MSc/PhD for senior researcher roles. CRI is one of Asia's leading coconut research centres.

A Day in the Life

Conduct scientific research on coconut cultivation, breeding, pest management, and processing at the Coconut Research Institute (CRI) of Sri Lanka, developing improved varieties and practices for coconut growers.

  • Design and execute field and lab experiments on coconut agronomy and breeding
  • Collect data on coconut yield, pest incidence, and treatment effectiveness
  • Analyse research data and prepare scientific reports and journal papers
  • Develop and test improved coconut varieties and hybrid seeds
  • Advise field extension officers and farmers on research-based recommendations
  • Apply for research grants from NARESA (National Research Council) and international bodies
  • Present research at scientific conferences and training programs

CRI research campus in Lunuwila (Puttalam district) — combination of laboratory work, field trials in coconut plantations, and office-based scientific writing. Government research environment.
