A Day in the Life

An Aquaculture Technician performs the daily hands-on tasks required to operate and maintain an aquaculture farm or hatchery. This includes feeding, monitoring water quality, cleaning tanks, assisting with harvesting, and maintaining equipment. They work under the supervision of an Aquaculture Officer or Manager, ensuring the health and growth of aquatic organisms.

  • Feeding fish or shrimp according to schedules and observed behavior
  • Monitoring and recording water quality parameters (temperature, pH, oxygen, ammonia)
  • Cleaning and maintaining tanks, ponds, and filtration systems
  • Assisting with grading, sorting, and harvesting aquatic stock
  • Observing fish/shrimp for signs of disease or stress and reporting to supervisors
  • Maintaining and repairing farm equipment (pumps, aerators, feeders)
  • Collecting samples for laboratory analysis (e.g., disease diagnostics)
  • Keeping accurate records of feed consumption, growth, and mortality
