About This Role
Runs the day-to-day operations of a tea processing factory — withering, rolling, fermentation, drying, and grading. Ensures quality output meets auction or direct export standards. Requires knowledge of orthodox and CTC tea processing. Promoted from assistant factory manager.
A Day in the Life
Manage the processing of green leaf into black, green, or white tea at a CTC or orthodox tea factory, maintaining production efficiency, quality standards, and machinery uptime.
- Oversee withering, rolling, fermentation, and drying processes
- Monitor tea grade outputs and adjust process parameters
- Maintain machinery (CTC rollers, dryers, vibro-screens) and schedule preventive maintenance
- Manage factory staff shifts and daily production targets
- Conduct quality checks at each production stage and prepare grade analysis reports
- Liaise with Tea Taster and auction coordinator on grade composition
- Ensure food safety and HACCP compliance in factory operations
Work Environment
Factory environment with tea processing machinery — hot, humid, dusty, and noisy. Factory typically located on or near estate. Involves night shifts during peak plucking season.
Typical hours: 55h/week · WLB score 4/10 · COMMON overtime
Shift-based work including nights during peak leaf intake seasons. Physically demanding but housing and benefits provided.
