About This Role
Manages a section of a tea estate, overseeing field operations, plucking supervision, fertiliser application, and worker welfare. Entry role for degree holders in the plantation sector. Employers include Watawala Plantations, Elpitiya Plantations, and Kelani Valley Plantations. Housing is usually provided on-estate.
A Day in the Life
Manage day-to-day field operations of a tea estate division, overseeing plucking, pruning, fertiliser application, and welfare of estate workers in Sri Lanka's hill country.
- Supervise tea plucking gangs and daily harvest targets
- Monitor and plan pruning cycles across estate divisions
- Apply fertiliser and pesticide schedules according to TSHDA guidelines
- Maintain estate worker attendance, wages, and welfare records
- Report daily production figures to Estate Superintendent
- Inspect tea bushes for pest and disease and coordinate with advisory officers
- Oversee worker housing, creche, and estate facilities
Work Environment
Outdoor work in Sri Lanka's central highlands (Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Badulla, Hatton). Physically demanding, early-morning start (5:30 AM muster), exposed to all weather. Residential on-estate with provided bungalow.
