A Day in the Life
Systems & Network Administrators manage the day-to-day operation of servers, networks, and IT infrastructure — configuring systems, monitoring performance, troubleshooting failures, and ensuring employees and services have reliable connectivity and access.
- Manage Windows/Linux server infrastructure (patching, configuration)
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues
- Manage user accounts in Active Directory / Azure AD
- Configure and maintain firewalls, switches, and routers
- Respond to helpdesk escalations for infrastructure issues
- Maintain documentation for network topology and server configurations
- Plan and execute infrastructure upgrades and migrations
Work Environment
Corporate IT department, government, bank, or enterprise. On-site with some remote monitoring capability. On-call rotation standard.
Typical hours: 47h/week · WLB score 6/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
On-call is common for critical infrastructure. Infrastructure incidents can require out-of-hours response.
