A Day in the Life

A Quantitative Analyst (Quant) develops and validates mathematical models for pricing financial instruments, measuring risk, and analysing market data. Working at a bank, asset manager, or KPO firm in Sri Lanka, they apply stochastic calculus, statistical inference, and programming (Python, R, C++) to build models that inform trading, risk management, and regulatory capital decisions. The role blends deep mathematics with software implementation and rigorous model validation.

  • Develop mathematical models for derivatives pricing, risk factor simulation, or portfolio analytics
  • Code model implementations in Python or R and validate numerical accuracy
  • Analyse historical market data to calibrate and backtest quantitative models
  • Produce documentation for model governance and regulatory model risk reviews
  • Collaborate with risk management and front office to understand modelling requirements
  • Review and challenge models developed by junior team members
