A Day in the Life

Manage human resources, industrial relations, and worker welfare functions for a Regional Plantation Company (RPC), overseeing estate labour compliance, worker housing, wage negotiations with trade unions, and EETCA act compliance.

  • Manage wage calculations and payroll for thousands of estate workers under EETCA
  • Handle grievances, disciplinary hearings, and Labour Department inquiries
  • Negotiate collective agreements with tea plantation trade unions (LJEWU, CWC)
  • Oversee worker housing, crèche, and estate welfare facilities
  • Ensure compliance with Wages Board orders and Plantation Housing Authority requirements
  • Conduct worker welfare and rights training programs
  • Coordinate with Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) on welfare programs

Work Environment

Office-based at RPC headquarters (Colombo or Kandy) with regular visits to estates. Heavy emphasis on labour law compliance, trade union relations, and worker welfare in a unionised workforce.
