Pattern Maker (Apparel)

HIGH DemandMEDIUM AI RiskSTABLE in SL· Rs.45k – Rs.110k /mo

Ideal for technically precise students who enjoy the intersection of art and engineering. Pattern making is a satisfying craft skill that produces tangible results. Better work-life balance than merchandising or production management. The risk is automation from 3D virtual tools — staying ahead by mastering Browzwear/CLO3D is essential for a long career.

About This Role

Creates and graded patterns for garment styles using CAD systems (Gerber, Lectra). Converts designer specs or buyer tech packs into cut-ready patterns. Pattern grading across size ranges is a core skill. Colombo's free trade zones have the highest demand.

A Day in the Life

Converts buyer tech packs and designer sketches into accurate garment patterns using CAD systems (Gerber, Lectra), then grades the patterns across size ranges for factory cutting.

  • Interpret buyer tech packs and construct base patterns for new styles
  • Grade base patterns across size range (XS to 3XL or EU/US sizing)
  • Prepare marker plans for fabric efficiency optimisation
  • Collaborate with sample room to verify pattern accuracy on first fit sample
  • Amend patterns based on fit comments from buyer or design team
  • Maintain pattern library and version control for all active styles
  • Calculate fabric consumption for costing purposes
  • Support production when cutting room issues arise from pattern problems
