About This Role
Creates and graded patterns for garment styles using CAD systems (Gerber, Lectra). Converts designer specs or buyer tech packs into cut-ready patterns. Pattern grading across size ranges is a core skill. Colombo's free trade zones have the highest demand.
A Day in the Life
Converts buyer tech packs and designer sketches into accurate garment patterns using CAD systems (Gerber, Lectra), then grades the patterns across size ranges for factory cutting.
- Interpret buyer tech packs and construct base patterns for new styles
- Grade base patterns across size range (XS to 3XL or EU/US sizing)
- Prepare marker plans for fabric efficiency optimisation
- Collaborate with sample room to verify pattern accuracy on first fit sample
- Amend patterns based on fit comments from buyer or design team
- Maintain pattern library and version control for all active styles
- Calculate fabric consumption for costing purposes
- Support production when cutting room issues arise from pattern problems
Work Environment
Pattern room or CAD studio adjacent to the factory floor. Combines computer workstation work (CAD) with hands-on physical pattern making. Precision, quiet workspace. Usually air-conditioned in modern factories.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
