A Day in the Life
Network Security Analysts monitor network traffic for threats, investigate anomalies, tune security tools, and implement network-level defences — spending days between SOC dashboards, firewall rule management, and incident investigations.
- Monitor network traffic and SIEM alerts for threats
- Analyse packet captures and network logs for anomalies
- Configure and tune firewall, IDS/IPS rules
- Investigate network-based intrusion attempts
- Conduct network vulnerability assessments
- Review and update network security policies
- Prepare security incident reports and threat intelligence briefs
Work Environment
Security Operations Centre (SOC) or IT security team in a bank, telecom, or enterprise. High-focus environment with multiple monitors and live dashboards.
Typical hours: 46h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Standard hours with on-call rotation. Major network incidents can require immediate out-of-hours response.
