A Day in the Life
IT Systems Engineers design, deploy, and maintain enterprise infrastructure — mornings handling server health checks and change requests, afternoons on system upgrades and configurations, evenings documenting and planning capacity.
- Monitor server and network infrastructure health dashboards
- Plan and execute system upgrades and patches
- Configure and maintain virtualization environments (VMware/Hyper-V)
- Troubleshoot hardware and OS-level failures
- Implement backup and disaster recovery procedures
- Coordinate with vendors for hardware procurement and support
- Document system configurations and maintain runbooks
Work Environment
Server room, data centre, or corporate IT department. Mostly desk-based with occasional physical server room work. Systematic and process-driven culture.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Generally good WLB with occasional overtime during system upgrades, migrations, or incident response. On-call rotation is common.
