Investment analysis is the intellectual engine of Sri Lanka's capital markets. The CSE's ~300 listed companies are thinly covered — a skilled analyst who develops deep sector expertise can genuinely move markets and influence investment decisions affecting millions of LKR. CFA is your career's most important credential and doubles as a global passport. If markets fascinate you, you enjoy analytical detective work across companies and industries, and you can write compelling investment arguments, this career will engage and reward you for decades.

About This Role

Evaluates financial data and market trends to advise on stock investments, bonds, and portfolio management.

A Day in the Life

An Investment Analyst conducts fundamental research on companies listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and related sectors to generate investment recommendations for portfolio managers or institutional clients. The role spans buy-side (asset management) and sell-side (stockbroker research), involving financial modelling, earnings analysis, and investment thesis development. Sri Lanka analysts typically cover 5–15 CSE-listed companies across assigned sectors, with thin existing coverage creating genuine opportunity to add analytical value.

  • Analyse CSE-listed company financial statements, annual reports, and quarterly results
  • Build DCF, comparable company (comps), and NAV valuation models in Excel
  • Write equity research reports with investment recommendations and target prices
  • Monitor macroeconomic developments and sector news affecting covered companies
  • Attend company AGMs, investor days, and management briefings
  • Screen for new investment ideas using quantitative filters (P/E, EV/EBITDA, dividend yield)
  • Support portfolio managers with ad-hoc sector and company analysis
  • Prepare weekly sector commentaries and contribute to investment committee discussions

Work Environment

OFFICETeam: SMALLFORMALRemote: MEDIUM

Investment analysts work in asset management companies (buy-side) or stockbroking firms (sell-side). The CSE market-hours rhythm shapes the day — mornings involve monitoring market openings, afternoons are for research and modelling. Colombo has a small but professionally ambitious investment community centred around the CSE. Acuity Knowledge Partners provides an additional pathway for SL analysts to serve global investment clients remotely.

Typical hours: 50h/week · WLB score 6/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime

Investment analysis involves sustained intellectual focus and occasional evening work during earnings seasons, AGMs, or market volatility. Results-oriented role — output quality matters more than clock hours. Market monitoring creates an always-on dimension that affects work-life balance moderately.
