About This Role
Manages international gem and jewelry export documentation, buyer communication, and logistics. Sri Lanka is exempt from gem export duties for value-added jewelry. Key markets: USA, UAE, Hong Kong, Japan, and Germany. NDBG (National Gem and Jewellery Authority) licences required.
A Day in the Life
Drive gem and jewellery export sales from Sri Lanka to international buyers, managing customer relationships, preparing export documentation, and representing Sri Lankan gems at international trade fairs.
- Manage portfolio of international gem and jewellery buyer accounts
- Prepare export quotations and negotiate contracts with overseas buyers
- Coordinate NGJA export certifications, customs documentation, and shipping
- Represent Sri Lankan gems at international fairs (Bangkok, JCK Las Vegas, Inhorgenta Munich)
- Develop new buyer markets through trade promotion and digital marketing
- Liaise with EDB and NGJA on market development programs
- Monitor competitor pricing from Thailand, India, and Colombia
Work Environment
Colombo-based office (Colombo 2/3 or Galle Road, Bambalapitiya) with significant international travel to gem fairs. Cross-time-zone communication with buyers in USA, Europe, and Middle East.
Typical hours: 47h/week · WLB score 6/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Good base work-life balance. International gem fair seasons (Bangkok Gems & Jewelry 3x per year, JCK in June) require intensive travel periods.
