A Day in the Life
Design, develop, and manage eco-tourism experiences that connect visitors to Sri Lanka's natural and cultural heritage while supporting conservation and community livelihoods.
- Design and deliver nature-based tourism experiences (wildlife safaris, rainforest treks, birdwatching)
- Develop community-based tourism programs that benefit local villages and traditional crafts
- Train local guides in naturalist knowledge, interpretation, and responsible tourism principles
- Monitor environmental impact of tourism activities and implement mitigation measures
- Develop partnerships with conservation organizations (Wilderness & Wildlife Conservation Trust, RSPB, WWF Sri Lanka)
- Create educational interpretation materials for visitors
- Manage relationships with national park authorities and DWLC (Department of Wildlife Conservation)
- Research and document biodiversity and cultural heritage at tourism sites
Work Environment
Sri Lanka's natural ecosystems — Yala, Udawalawe, Sinharaja, Knuckles, Bundala, Wilpattu national parks and forest reserves. Community villages in eco-tourism circuits. Field-based, physical work with significant outdoor time. Connects conservation mission with tourism business.
Typical hours: 50h/week · WLB score 8/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
